Midnight Snack

To be honest, I've never had this at midnight, but I think it would be just as good then as it is when I usually have it.

So, on this no starchy carb diet thing we've got going on, you get hungry at times when you're not normally hungry. Or, at least, I do. Take last night, for example. We had salmon and stir-fried veggies. I'd normally have roasted potaotes and, if we were good and made bread, I'd have a homemade roll. You counting? That's two carb thingies. Not cool. So, last night, I had salmon and veggies. All that's fine and dandy at 6pm, but come 9:30 or 10pm, I'm wanting something to eat. Normally, a cookie...or two...and some milk, or something like that would work just fine to suffice. Buuut...we're not eating cookies. (Not supposed to be, anyway) I was going to eat an apple at 10pm last night, but the apples were in the barn. Yeah...the barn, and I wasn't about to go down there just for an apple. (Our fridge in the house has been working on and off for the past couple weeks, so we have stuff in the fridge on the porch and in the fridge in the barn.) I needed something, and I needed something quick. I was getting close to eating something very wicked, I was so hungry. Salmon and veggies don't stick to your ribs like meat, bread, and potatoes, you know?

Geez..this is turning into a long story. I scrambled for something to eat, and this is what I came up with. It doesn't have a name, so I'll just tell you what I did and you can call it whatever the heck you want to. Last night I called it "Good" and "Bliss" but those aren't very official sounding names.

1/2 a cup of milk...

1/2 a banana...

A spoonful of healthy peanut butter...no hydrogenated oil, added sweetener or anything like that...

A handful of ice...

Blend...

Pour...

And enjoy! Seriously, this took me like two minutes to make, and I was a happy camper. :)

So tonight when I had Shrimp with Feta (with NO pasta...sob) and spinach at 6pm, come 10pm, I made this again. And it's just as good now as it was last night!

I love this because I'm not eating sugar (or anything sweet at all....I'm even drinking coffee with just cream and no sugar) and this shake doesn't even need sweetener to be yummy! Not to mention the fact that I love banana and peanut butter together...

Try it. It might make you smile. :)

  1. No name? We always called that a Peanut Butter-Banana smoothie. ;) Definitely my favorite flavor.

Tip: Whenever you have some overripe bananas, peel and freeze them. Much better than ice. We sometimes get a large box of overripe bananas for cheap, and store them this way.

  2. Oh, yeah, I love freezing overripe bananas...I just didn't have any then. :) You know, I saw a bin of bananas that were too ripe at Walmart yesterday, and they were still just as much money as the good ones! I bet I could check at the local grocery stores instead and might find a good deal on them.

If I were eating sugar, I'd add cocoa and sugar or honey, and that would definitely be my favorite. But with no sugar, this is it!
